RSF Soccer Registration
2009-2010 Season

Registration Overview

This presents an overview of how a player may join an RSF Soccer team, the Registration Process, the approximate annual schedule, the player age limits, and the team numbering system.

There are two divisions of soccer at Rancho Santa Fe Soccer, Academy (Recreational or Rec) and Attack (Competitive or Comp). Academy soccer is more casual, less expensive and less intense; while the Attack division is for the more serious players with professional coaches and a more aggressive and competitive nature.

Registration

Teams for the upcoming season (beginning July 1 of each year) are formed in the Spring for both divisions, Academy and Attack. The respective registration processes, tryouts and team assignments are explained below. All registrations can be started online. After entering all requested data, the system then prints out forms and gives instructions for completing the process with the RSF Soccer Registrar.

Forming the divisions

Academy

A sufficient number of Rec teams are formed to accommodate all those who register in the Spring.

Players may still find places on teams after this event but generally Academy Soccer registration closes on or about Opening Day (early September). Until that close, Academy soccer is generally open to all comers unless a particular roster is full.

Attack

Finding a place on an Attack team is by invitation of the respective coach only.

The first place to present a prospective or returning player for an Attack team is at the Spring Tryouts. These Tryout events are advertised and held at a local field where players may present themselves for selection to an Attack team within their age group. Coaches for the many Attack teams can look for talent for their teams. Prospective players sign in upon arrival for these events and afterwards are notified by the coach as to whether they were selected or not.

After the tryouts are held, new players may be added to comp. teams as the rosters permit. After the tryouts prospective players should contact the manager or the coach (see the Teams pages on this website) for the target team for possible review and acceptance to the roster.

Age grouping

Example: Under 13 players must be younger than 13 years on August 1 of the current year. Each age cohort is relegated by the player’s birthday falling on or after August 1st. Not sure of the correct age group for your child? The CalSouth 2009-2010 Season Age Matrix can be found here.

Team Numbering System

Because the BU14 or GU11 designators change every year as the players become older, we have adopted a team numbering system that does not require change each year. This is done by referring to the age cut-off year instead of the current calendar year. Our teams are designated by the year of the birthday limit dates established for the U8 through U19 age numbers for the League Divisions in which they will play.

For example, a boy born on or after August 1st of 1998 must play the 2009-2010 Season at the U11 level (or older); next season at U12 or older and so on. So all players in a Boys or Girls 00 team, say G00W team, must have been born on or after August first 2000. Year after year, they can play with the same team identified by the same number as they get older. The G and W suffixes refer to the Green or White levels of team play - sometimes referred to as the 'A' or the 'B' team.
